Our Story

The building at 115 S. Royal St. in Old Town Alexandria, which is now referred lovingly by locals as “The Coffee Shop,” originally served as overflow for busy brunch mornings at Fontaine Caffe & Creperie and the occasional events space.

But in 2020, the pandemic forced most of the world to close its doors. Our restaurant was no different. Throughout the pandemic, we were committed to supporting our staff and began offering to-go meals to the public, but an overflow space was not needed and sat empty for months.

As Alexandrians began to slowly venture out of their homes and back into the world, our team recognized a need for those seeking out friendly interaction once more. And so, The Coffee Shop at Fontaine was born. From out of a desperate, world-wide experience rose a reinvented “home” for our local friends, family and neighbors to enjoy.

With a focus on supporting small, local coffee roasters, bakeries and artists, we are proud to offer a friendly, warm, welcoming and social experience for all. Enjoy our customized gourmet coffee drinks, craft teas and daily delivered fresh pastries while visiting with friends, hosting a business meeting or enjoying a good book. Everyone is family at The Coffee Shop at Fontaine.
